I quit smoking 2 1/2 years ago. In the first year, I gained the requisite 15 pounds. My doctor told me not to worry too much about it, he said that the few extra pounds was worth the health benefits I gained when I quit smoking, besides the fact that I was about 5 pounds underweight when I quit!
I did decide to start watching what I eat and start an exercise program (before I developed a "real" problem). In the year since my new "healthy" ways started, I've gained another 10 pounds!!!
I visited my doctor yesterday to discuss a number of minor health issues I'm having, including my additional weight gain. He immediately asked me if I'd ever heard of the glycemic index and strongly recommended that I research it make the necessary changes.
That's why I'm here and I intend to make this lifestyle change ... and drag my family with me kicking and screaming :o)
